”White Rose” group

The White Rose (Die Weiße Rose)

Death came quickly for five young students and one Professor at Munich University in 1943 Germany as they bravely and dedicatedly acted to rouse action against Hitler’s oppressive Nazi Party and the World War they were waging. The core group printed anti-Nazi pamphlets and disseminated them in Germany, that act cost them their lives and futures. The execution order was given by Nazi henchman, “Judge” Roland Friesler on February 22nd  1943, Hans and Sophie Scholl and Christoph Probst were sentenced to death and executed by guillotine hours after their “trial”. Alexander Schmorell, Kurt Huber, and Willi Graf were also arrested, tried, and sentenced to death on April 19th Alexander Schmorell and Professor Kurt Huber were executed three months later, on July 13th, and Willi Graf was executed on October 12th, 1943. The cost of printing the truth under Fascist rule is severe. This body of work, “White Rose Group”, is my tribute to their collective memory and courage.
