“Borders” series

“Borders” by their very nature unite and separate, either by claustrophobic restraint or expansionist paranoia. Conduct enacted by the human species towards one another are often inhuman. The “Borders” that are crossed for reasons habitually stated to be righteous, honorable or morally justified can be physical, spiritual and psychological but all result in some form of mental or actual impairment. The images represent various forms of this activity and the use of Polaroid materials is employed to give an “instant veracity” to the content. This is most apparent in the 8x10 inch image grid, but when enlarged and displayed with large metal clips and out sized nails, referencing crucifixion, they become more confrontational and emotionally questioning.
